Nigeria’s inflation rate moderated sharply in November 2025, easing to 14.45 per cent from 16.05 per cent in October, the lowest level recorded in five years.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced the figures on Monday in its November 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, noting a month-on-month decline of 1.6 percentage points in headline inflation.
According to the bureau, the slowdown reflects a continued easing in price pressures compared with the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, headline inflation fell significantly, dropping by 20.15 percentage points from the 34.60 per cent recorded in November 2024.
The NBS explained that the annual comparison shows a notable reduction in inflationary pressure, although it is measured against a different base year of November 2009 set at 100.
However, month-on-month data showed a slight uptick in price movements. The headline inflation rate rose to 1.22 per cent in November, up from 0.93 per cent in October, indicating that average prices increased at a faster pace within the month.
Food inflation also declined during the period, falling to 11.08 per cent in November from 13.12 per cent in October. On a year-on-year basis, food inflation dropped sharply by 28.85 percentage points, from 39.93 per cent in November 2024 to 11.08 per cent.
The statistics agency attributed the steep fall in annual food inflation largely to a change in the base year used in calculating the index, rather than a sudden shift in market conditions.
