SUNDAY SCHOOL BY SAM NKIRE

YOU DO NOTHING, GOD DOES EVERYTHING.

*John 6:29 says: Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” For the avoidance of doubt, Jesus is the one who God the Father sent to the world.

*Now, chances are that you may be one of those Christians who believe that they need to share responsibility with God by doing their part to help complete the work of God in our lives, which Jesus finished on the Cross, two thousand years ago. If you are, you may need to read John 6:29 again.

*To further de-emphasize the importance of self-effort and working ‘hard’ to earn salvation, John 6:40 also says: “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day”.

*It is also possible that you are one of those who believe that they have to work hard and do their part to gain favour from God; because James 2:17 says ‘faith without work is dead’.

*Please note that the ‘work’ implied in this case is the work of compassion to the needy and helpless among us. As a true believer, you should have the Holy Spirit in you, leading, guiding and teaching you what to do and which way to go, in your walk with Christ.

*In 1Corinthians 3:6 Paul said:”I planted the seed and Apollos watered it; but God gave the increase.” No matter what we do and call it work or effort, if God doesn’t give increase, it will amount to nothing.

*Our ‘work’ cannot complement the completed work of Christ, which He did on our behalf, on the Cross of Calvary.

*Believing in Christ is the work; and the work is to believe in Christ and His gospel. All glory belongs to God.
