From Ude Nwokocha
The political momentum behind the member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh (Onyeocha N’Aba), received a significant boost this week as key Labour Party stakeholders across Abia State reaffirmed their support for his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strong demonstration of unity and solidarity, the Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA, Hon. Chiemela Iheanacho; Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike; Mayor of Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Hon. Chidi Agu; alongside the Abia State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Chukwuma Azode (China), paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Ikwechegh.
The meeting, which took place shortly after the federal lawmaker obtained his nomination form, highlighted the growing cohesion within the Labour Party family in Abia State and the determination of party leaders to consolidate the gains recorded under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
Receiving the delegation, Ikwechegh expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a clear indication of the shared vision, unity, and collective commitment among Labour Party stakeholders towards the continued development of Abia State and the advancement of the party’s ideals.
The visit coincided with another major milestone in the lawmaker’s political journey, as the National Labour Party Screening Committee officially screened and cleared him to contest the Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
With the successful screening, Ikwechegh emerged as the party’s sole candidate and flag bearer for the constituency, effectively confirming his place on the ballot as he seeks a renewed mandate from the people.
Political observers view the twin developments as a strong endorsement of the lawmaker’s performance and growing influence within the party. The convergence of grassroots leaders, local government mayors, transport union leadership, and party stakeholders around his candidacy reflects increasing confidence in his representation and leadership.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, Labour Party faithful across the state believe the party remains well-positioned to strengthen its hold on Abia’s political landscape. With support continuing to build around Governor Alex Otti’s administration and key party candidates such as Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, many within the party see the emerging unity as a foundation for future electoral success.
For supporters of Onyeocha N’Aba, the message is clear: the journey to 2027 has begun, and the confidence in his leadership remains stronger than ever.
