FG bans commercial motorcycles, tricycles on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

From Marcus Nkire

The Federal Ministry of Works has banned the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, citing the need to protect the newly constructed road from misuse and premature deterioration.

The directive, which takes effect this week, was announced by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare.

According to the ministry, the restriction forms part of broader measures aimed at preserving the highway, maintaining order, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.

Authorities also prohibited the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State, warning that the practice would no longer be tolerated.

The ministry further banned the dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the act as unacceptable and harmful to the maintenance of public infrastructure.

Officials said road signs indicating the new restrictions have already been installed, while enforcement teams will be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance.

Motorists and other road users have been urged to adhere to the new directives, as authorities warn that violators will face enforcement actions.

The ministry maintained that protecting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is essential to preserving its lifespan, safety, and value for public use.
