Selhurst Park, Premier League – Saturday, 27 September 2025

Crystal Palace struck late to hand Liverpool their first league defeat of the season, as Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time goal sealed a dramatic 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles made a blistering start, taking the lead inside 10 minutes through Ismaïla Sarr. The forward capitalised on hesitant defending to fire past the Liverpool goalkeeper and send the home crowd into early celebration.

Liverpool struggled to settle in the first half, with Palace repeatedly threatening to extend their lead. Despite dominating possession at times, the visitors failed to create clear openings and went into the break trailing.

Jürgen Klopp’s side improved after the interval and eventually found a breakthrough in the closing stages. Substitute Federico Chiesa struck in the 87th minute to level the score, sparking hopes of a late Liverpool comeback.

However, Palace had the final say. Deep into stoppage time, Nketiah collected the ball in the area and finished clinically to restore the lead. A brief VAR review confirmed the goal, prompting wild celebrations among the home supporters.

The result lifts Palace further up the table and extends their unbeaten run, while Liverpool’s flawless start to the campaign comes to an abrupt end. Questions will now be asked about the Reds’ defensive lapses, which proved costly on a night when they struggled to contain Palace’s pace and intensity.
