Daredevil armed robbers have killed ARISE News broadcaster, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, along with others during an attack in the Katampe area of Abuja. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, and is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.

Details remain sketchy, but eyewitnesses confirmed that the assailants raided a residential block in the community. One witness, who narrowly escaped, said on social media: “I don’t wish anyone to witness the things I saw. When I’m ready, I’ll share details. For now may the souls of the departed find peace.”

The management of ARISE News Channel has confirmed Maduagwu’s death, describing her as one of their brightest young talents. She was killed at just 29 years old during the robbery at her residence.

Born on December 26, 1995, and fondly known as Sommie, Maduagwu had established herself as a dynamic news anchor, reporter, and producer. A trained lawyer, she combined her legal background with journalism, bringing sharp analytical skills and a passion for justice into her reporting.

In a statement, ARISE News expressed profound grief:
“Somtochukwu was not only a cherished member of our ARISE family but also a vibrant voice who inspired, informed, and connected with viewers. Her voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure in our collective memory.”
