May 7, 2025 — Former UFC Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira has denied posting a cryptic tweet that expressed frustration with the UFC and hinted at potential retirement. The tweet, which was quickly deleted, stated:
“I’ve never spoken poorly of the UFC but with what I’ve just heard I’m disheartened. I’ve already had thoughts of not fighting anymore, and after what was just relayed to me this may be the start.”
The post sparked widespread speculation within the MMA community, with some interpreting it as a comment on fighter pay or disappointment over not securing an immediate title rematch, possibly against reigning Light Heavyweight Champion Magomed Ankalaev.
Shortly after, Pereira released a video addressing the situation, claiming his Twitter account had been hacked. He reaffirmed his positive relationship with the UFC and denied any involvement in the message.
Despite his statement, some fans remain skeptical, questioning the likelihood of a hacker posting only a single, emotionally charged tweet. Others suggest the hack claim may be an attempt to avoid conflict with UFC leadership.
At 37, Pereira is nearing the latter stages of a storied combat sports career that includes championships in both kickboxing and MMA. Whether the tweet was a genuine expression or a misunderstanding, it has raised questions about his future in the octagon.
