Breaking: 50 Children Flee Captivity After Mass School Abduction in Nigeria

From Sheila Achenyo

In a remarkable turn of events, fifty students have escaped from gunmen who abducted over 300 pupils and staff from a Catholic boarding school in Niger State. The children made their daring break between Friday and Saturday, evading their captors and returning safely to their families, according to church leaders.

The kidnapping, which targeted St. Mary’s School in the remote Papiri community, has sparked national outrage. While the escape of these fifty offers a glimmer of relief, around 253 students and 12 teachers are still believed to be held by the attackers.

Authorities and faith leaders have called for heightened efforts to secure the release of all remaining captives. The incident comes amid rising concerns over school safety in parts of northern Nigeria, where mass abductions have become distressingly frequent.
