Enugu Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Digital Skills Development

From Kelvin Ezih

The Enugu State Government has restated that digital skills development is a major pillar of its strategy for youth empowerment and sustainable economic growth. Special Adviser on Digital Economy and SMEs, Arinze Chilo-Offiah, said the Enugu Tech Talents Programme is central to this effort, providing young people with high-demand skills including software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

He noted that the goal is to shift youths from being mere consumers of technology to active creators who can contribute to innovation, productivity, and economic inclusion.

The programme, implemented through the Enugu SME Centre, is designed to build a workforce that meets current and emerging global labour market demands, while strengthening Enugu’s profile as a hub for digital talent and tech-driven jobs.

Chilo-Offiah emphasized that the initiative reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s broader focus on human capital development as a driver of long-term economic transformation. He added that beyond training, the state is also working to develop a supportive environment for startups, attract investment, and expand job opportunities for young people.

He said the government’s digital economy agenda includes a mix of capacity building, entrepreneurship support, and ecosystem development to ensure that young people can convert newly acquired skills into sustainable livelihoods. The Enugu SME Centre continues to roll out programmes aimed at strengthening innovation, enhancing competitiveness, and positioning the state as an emerging player in the technology sector.
