Gen. Christopher Musa Takes Over Leadership at Defence Ministry

From Dave Oloye

Retired General Christopher Musa, former Chief of Defence Staff, formally stepped into his new role as Minister of Defence on Friday, marking a fresh phase for Nigeria’s security administration.

His appointment, announced earlier in the week by President Bola Tinubu after the exit of former minister Muhammed Badaru, received swift approval from the Senate on Thursday. The development has sparked broad optimism among security analysts and stakeholders who believe Musa’s reputation for strategic, disciplined leadership will bolster ongoing military operations.

The new minister arrived at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja shortly after 11 a.m., where he observed customary military protocols, including an inspection of the quarter guard. He was received by service chiefs and senior ministry officials before proceeding inside.

Musa has since gone into a closed-door briefing with top defence commanders and directors, beginning the process of aligning priorities and setting the agenda for his tenure.
