Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi (representing Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke Federal Constituency, Plateau State), on Wednesday led a brief but strategic meeting aimed at charting a clearer course for the Nigerian Navy’s financial direction in the year ahead.
The session, though concise, dug into the nitty-gritty of budgetary expectations for 2026. Members reviewed the status of the 2025 budget and, after deliberations, agreed that the unapproved allocation from last year would be formally carried over into the 2026 cycle. According to the committee, this approach ensures continuity and prevents critical naval programmes from stalling.
Also present were Hon. Alex Ikwechegh (Aba North/South Federal Constituency, Abia State) and Hon. Nwachukwu Canice Moore (Ehimembano/Ihitte-Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency, Imo State), Hon Garba Rabi’u Kamba( Deputy Chairman) all who contributed to the discussions, emphasizing the need for stable funding to strengthen maritime security and operational readiness.
The committee is expected to reconvene in the coming days as it fine-tunes recommendations ahead of wider legislative scrutiny, signalling what may be a busier budget season for the Navy compared to previous years.
