Jake Paul Undergoes Second Jaw Surgery After Knockout Loss to Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul has revealed that he required a second operation on his jaw following his knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua in their December bout.

The fight, held at Miami’s Kaseya Center, was a high-profile match backed by Netflix and widely discussed across the boxing world. Paul, who has transitioned from online personality to professional boxer, was stopped in the sixth round after Joshua cornered him and landed a decisive right hand to the chin. The blow left Paul with what he initially described as a “double broken jaw,” for which he underwent immediate surgery.

On Friday, Paul announced that a second surgery was necessary. He explained on Instagram that screws and plates from the first procedure had become loose, which doctors attributed to inadequate rest in the weeks following the fight.

The event drew significant attention—not only for the matchup itself, but for the stark difference in boxing experience and size between Paul and Joshua, a former two-time world heavyweight champion. Although both fighters reportedly earned a combined purse of around $184 million, many observers criticized the bout for its uneven pairing and moments of disorganized action inside the ring.

At one point, the contest grew so chaotic that referee Christopher Young warned both men, saying, “The fans did not pay to see this,” as Paul struggled to stay upright and frequently clinched at Joshua’s legs.
Despite the criticism, the matchup generated substantial global attention—though it ultimately ended with Paul recovering not just from one, but two jaw surgeries in the aftermath.
