LISBON, July 3, 2025 — The football world was plunged into mourning on Thursday following the tragic death of Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car accident alongside his brother, André Silva.

According to Spanish authorities, the fatal crash occurred on the A-52 motorway near Cernadilla, Spain. The luxury vehicle in which both men were travelling reportedly veered off the road and burst into flames. Initial investigations suggest that speeding and a possible tyre blowout may have contributed to the incident.

The announcement of Jota’s death sparked immediate tributes from across the football world.
