Abuja, Nigeria – September 18, 2025
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates. A total of 1,367,210 candidates registered for the June/July examination, with 1,358,339 eventually sitting for the exams across the country.
According to NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26%, secured five credits and above including Mathematics and English Language — a key benchmark for gaining admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. In total, 1,144,496 candidates (or 84.26%) obtained five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.
Wushishi noted a significant improvement in the conduct of the 2025 examination, as cases of examination malpractice dropped drastically compared to the previous year. Only 3,878 cases were recorded in 2025, a sharp decline from the 10,094 cases reported in 2024 — indicating a 61.58% reduction.
“We are committed to upholding the integrity of our examinations. The drastic drop in malpractice cases is a result of strengthened monitoring mechanisms and increased public awareness,” the Registrar stated.
Despite the largely successful exercise, the Council revealed that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in cases of mass cheating. Investigations are ongoing, and results from these schools may be withheld pending review. Additionally, nine supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting due to unethical conduct during the examination.
In Adamawa State, communal clashes in Lamorde Local Government Area disrupted the exams in eight schools. As a result, NECO announced that the results of affected candidates have been withheld temporarily, with plans underway to reschedule their examinations.
Wushishi praised the resilience of candidates and the collaborative efforts of school administrators, security agencies, and other stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and credible conduct of the 2025 SSCE.
Candidates can now check their results online via the NECO result-checking portal using their exam registration numbers and result checking tokens.
