Tributes from Colleagues and Industry Figures

Across the Nigerian music scene, tributes have poured in for the man widely credited with modernizing live-band entertainment.

Obi Asika, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), described Akin Shuga as “a rare talent who brought joy to countless people through his live performances.”

“He gave joy to so many through his incredible band, stagecraft, and infectious energy,” Asika said.

Renowned music critic Osezua Stephen-Imobhio called Akin Shuga’s passing “a heartbreaking shock,” noting that his artistry set a gold standard in live entertainment.

“He was a pioneer who elevated the live band industry, bringing it unmatched class, honour, and glamour,” he said. “His era was defined by music of such quality it became a benchmark for excellence. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.”

A Life of Inspiration and Impact

Beyond his artistry, Akin Shuga’s story was one of determination and courage. Despite early challenges, he built one of Nigeria’s most respected live bands — one that became a fixture at high-profile events, weddings, and national celebrations.

Through decades of dedication, he not only entertained but mentored a generation of performers, proving that live music could be both profitable and profoundly cultural.

Akin Shuga’s passing marks the end of an era — but his rhythm, passion, and purpose will continue to echo in the hearts of those he inspired.
