Nigeria stormed into the World Cup playoff final on Thursday night after a dramatic 4–1 extra-time win over Gabon in Rabat.

The Super Eagles looked set for a narrow victory when Akor Adams broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, pouncing on a defensive mix-up to give Nigeria the lead.

But Gabon hit back late, with Mario Lemina’s deflected shot in the 89th minute forcing extra time.Extra time was all Nigeria. Chidera Ejuke restored the advantage in the 97th minute before Victor Osimhen bagged a quick brace, in the 102nd and 110th minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Coach Finidi George hailed his players’ composure, saying they “showed real character and hunger when it mattered most.”

The victory sends Nigeria into the playoff final, keeping their 2026 World Cup hopes very much alive and reminding Africa that the Super Eagles still know how to soar.
