US Delivers Military Supplies to Nigeria to Boost Security Cooperation

From Marcus Nkire

The United States has supplied Nigeria with military equipment as part of efforts to deepen security cooperation between both countries.

The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees US military operations across Africa.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, AFRICOM said US forces handed over the supplies to Nigerian partners in Abuja, describing the move as support for Nigeria’s ongoing security operations.

U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja”

This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the command stated.
AFRICOM did not disclose details on the type or quantity of equipment delivered. The post tagged the US Mission in Nigeria.

The latest development comes amid broader security engagement between Nigeria and the United States. On Christmas night, US forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting militants linked to the Islamic State group, who were accused of collaborating with the Lakurawa jihadist faction and local armed bandit groups.

The airstrikes followed diplomatic tensions between both countries over allegations of religious persecution in Nigeria. US President Donald Trump had previously described the situation as “genocide,” a claim the Nigerian government firmly rejected.
