From Marcus Nkire

Several explosions have hit Maiduguri, leaving scores of people dead and many others injured in a coordinated attack that has shaken the city.

The blasts reportedly occurred in the evening at multiple crowded locations, including a busy market area and other public spaces, triggering panic among residents. Witnesses said the explosions happened within a short interval, suggesting a planned assault.

Early casualty figures indicate that at least 23 people lost their lives, while dozens more sustained injuries. Emergency responders quickly moved victims to nearby hospitals as security operatives cordoned off affected areas.

Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, suspicion has fallen on insurgent factions known to operate in the region, including Boko Haram.
Authorities have condemned the incident, describing it as a brutal attack on civilians, while urging residents to remain calm and vigilant as investigations continue.

The latest violence highlights ongoing security concerns in northeastern Nigeria, where insurgent activities persist despite sustained military efforts to restore stability.
