Mass Resignations Hit APGA in Aba as Local Executives Step Down

From Marcus Nkire

A fresh wave of resignations has shaken the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Aba South LGA and Aba North LGA, as eight key local party officers announced their departure on Monday, citing internal realignments and shifting political interests.

In coordinated statements, the following officers tendered their resignations with immediate effect:
From Aba South LGA:
Hon. Chinagorom Nwanyuanwu (Chairman),
Mrs. Grace Eke A (Secretary),
Mrs. Micheal Ada (Woman Leader),
Mr. Azubuike Ekemezie (Youth Leader).
From Aba North LGA:
Hon. Victor Urum (Chairman),
Hon. Okoro Chima Peter (Secretary),
Mrs. Juliana Duruaku (Woman Leader),
Hon. Edwin Ehuchie “Bongos” (Youth Leader).

Their resignations, arriving in quick succession, have prompted concerns within the party’s state structure, particularly as dozens of grassroots members from both LGAs reportedly followed suit.

A Party Familiar With High-Profile Movements

APGA in Abia State is no stranger to major political shifts. In recent years, the entry of influential figures such as Enyinnaya Abaribe reshaped the party’s visibility and momentum across the Southeast, marking one of the most significant political realignments in the state.
Today’s resignations echo the pattern of sudden repositioning that has long characterized Abia’s political terrain where party loyalties often shift in response to emerging power blocs, leadership disputes, or evolving electoral calculations.

Mascot Ikwechegh Now One of the Last High-Profile Figures Standing

With the departure of multiple officers, political observers note that Alex Mascot Ikwechegh now stands among the few high-profile figures still remaining in the Abia APGA structure. His next moves, analysts say, may determine whether the party stabilizes or faces further erosion.

As the dust settles, one question hangs in the air:
Is this the beginning of a larger political exodus or merely the quiet before a storm that could redefine Abia’s political map once again?
