Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued as Heavy Rains, Strong Winds Loom
Residents in several areas have been placed on alert following a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, forecasting intense rainfall, strong winds, and possible lightning strikes.
According to the agency, the weather system is expected to affect parts of northern and central Nigeria, with the potential to disrupt daily activities, damage property, and trigger localized flooding. Authorities warned that wind gusts could bring down trees and weak structures, while heavy downpours may overwhelm drainage systems.
Emergency responders have advised residents to remain indoors during the storm, avoid open fields, and disconnect electrical appliances to reduce the risk of lightning-related incidents. Motorists have also been urged to drive cautiously due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency emphasized the importance of staying updated through official weather bulletins, noting that conditions could change rapidly. Residents in flood-prone areas have been encouraged to take precautionary measures as the storm approaches.
