OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD MAY NOT BE TRANSACTIONAL; BUT WE ARE SLEEPING PARTNERS
Some of us pretend we so love God and just want to serve Him selflessly; not for what we stand to gain in Him or from Him.
This may be for lack of knowledge or ignorance. John 6:35 says: And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
So, why should we pretend we are not here for what we get? The difference between our relationship with God and man is that while we contribute nothing, God contributes everything.
Even in some kinds of businesses or relationships, there are people called sleeping partners. These are people who do no work but expect handsome reward, as a matter of entitlement, from someone else’s work and effort.
Such people include the singer’s husband, the footballer’s wife, the boxer’s wife, and of course, the children of God. While the boxer takes the punch, the wife pockets the pounds.
Christ was crucified as sacrifice for the sins of mankind, while mankind did nothing. So, when you see Christians praying and asking God for material things, know that they are asking for their entitlements; for which Christ died so they could have, even abundantly.
Genesis 15:12 says: “Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abraham. . .” Abraham had planned to participate in cutting a covenant with God, but God simply sent him to sleep; making him a sleeping partner.
God’s promise to make Abraham father of many nations sounded too good to believe. But Abraham believed it and it came to pass while he fell asleep, without playing a part.
