Toyota has introduced the 2026 GRMN Corolla, a new performance-oriented version of the GR Corolla that brings a range of upgrades aimed at improving power, handling, and overall driving dynamics. Developed by Toyota’s GAZOO Racing division, the model reflects the company’s continued use of motorsport experience to enhance its production vehicles.
The GRMN Corolla was refined through extensive testing at Germany’s Nürburgring circuit and participation in Japan’s Super Taikyu endurance racing series. According to Toyota, the development process focused on creating a vehicle that delivers greater precision and driver confidence in demanding conditions.
Among the mechanical improvements is an increase in peak engine torque to 302 pound-feet, with engineers placing particular emphasis on strengthening performance in the mid-range rev range between 4,000 and 4,600 rpm. The vehicle also features an intercooler spray system and upgraded cooling ducts to help maintain engine performance during sustained high-speed driving.
Toyota has incorporated several aerodynamic upgrades inspired by its racing program, including a vented hood, redesigned fender ducts, front side spoilers, and an adjustable rear wing. The company says these changes improve stability, grip, and handling, particularly during high-speed driving.
The suspension has also been revised with exclusive monotube shock absorbers, rebound springs, and specially calibrated electric power steering. In addition, the all-wheel-drive system has been retuned to provide improved rear torque distribution, while Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres are fitted to enhance traction and cornering performance.
To further improve performance, Toyota reduced the vehicle’s weight by approximately 66 pounds compared with the standard GR Corolla by removing the rear seats. The reduction contributes to a better power-to-weight ratio and reinforces the car’s track-focused design.
Inside the cabin, the GRMN Corolla adopts a driver-focused layout featuring semi-bucket sport seats finished in black and red suede with synthetic leather upholstery. The interior also includes carbon-fibre trim, a flocked instrument panel designed to reduce glare, exclusive GRMN badging, and a dashboard carrying the signature of Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda, who races under the name “Morizo.”
Production of the 2026 GRMN Corolla will take place at Toyota’s Motomachi plant in Japan. The model is expected to be offered primarily in North America, Japan, and Australia, with pricing and complete specifications to be announced closer to its market launch.
Toyota added that technologies developed during the GRMN Corolla program will also contribute to future improvements across the broader GR Corolla lineup, highlighting the company’s ongoing strategy of applying lessons from competitive motorsport to its road-going vehicles.
