INEC Reports 78,451 New Voter Registration Applications in Plateau
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has received 78,451 new applications under the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Plateau State.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Mohammed Sadiq, made this known during a stakeholder engagement held on Wednesday in Jos.
According to him, the online phase of the CVR opened on August 18, followed by physical registration on August 25. He noted that the first phase of the exercise is scheduled to close on December 10.
Providing an update on the process, Sadiq explained that 44,142 of the applications fell under incident cases, while 25,290 applicants had completed their physical biometric capture. Another 7,019, he added, were yet to appear for physical verification.
“So far, we have 78,451 new applications. Out of these, 25,290 have been fully captured, 7,019 are awaiting physical capture, while 44,142 are incident registrations,” he said.
He further announced that the preliminary voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny, claims, and objections from December 15 to 21, with complaints scheduled to be handled on December 21.
INEC will resume the second phase of the CVR on January 5, 2026.
The REC also expressed concern over the large number of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state, revealing that 101,200 PVCs remain unclaimed. He urged eligible residents to collect their cards and advised those yet to complete their registration to do so before the December 10 deadline.
