Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, pledging to pursue far-reaching reforms aimed at rebuilding Nigeria’s political and economic systems.
Sowore, who previously contested for the presidency under the African Action Congress (AAC), said his decision to return to the race was driven by the need to address what he described as the country’s deep-rooted governance and leadership challenges.
According to him, successive administrations have failed to tackle the fundamental issues confronting the nation, resulting in widespread hardship, poor accountability, and declining public trust in government institutions.
The activist-politician stated that his campaign would focus on transparency, justice, good governance, and citizens’ welfare, insisting that Nigeria requires a complete overhaul of its existing political structure to achieve meaningful progress.
Sowore also stressed the importance of youth participation in governance, urging young Nigerians to become actively involved in shaping the country’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His declaration has generated reactions across political circles, with supporters applauding his consistency and commitment to reform-driven politics, while critics continue to question his chances in a political landscape dominated by larger and more established parties.
The announcement adds to the growing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as political parties and aspirants intensify consultations, coalition-building efforts, and grassroots mobilization across the country.
